One of the delights of being a spice merchant is talking to people all over the world, sharing in the joys of good food, aroma, and flavour. This Friday is Spring Equinox - also Nowruz, the Persian New Year — a celebration rooted in renewal, light, and the turning of the earth. Marking the spring equinox, it’s a tradition that’s been honoured for over 3,000 years, bringing together food, family, and the quiet hope of a fresh start.

At the heart of Nowruz is the Haft-Seen — a table of symbolic foods, each carrying meaning, from garlic for health to apples for beauty. It’s a reminder that across cultures, we return to the same rituals: sharing meals, honouring the seasons, and finding connection in the flavours that define us.

It feels especially apt this year.
