Description
Chilli Name: FACING HEAVEN
Chilli Species: Capsicum Annuum
Chilli Origin: China
Chilli Heat: Medium
Facing Heaven is a traditional Capsicum annuum chilli widely grown in China and East Asia. It is named for its distinctive upright-growing pods, which point skywards rather than hanging down.
Pods are small, slender, and conical, typically 5–7 cm long. Fruits grow upright on the plant and ripen from green to bright red when fully mature. The walls are thin, making the pods suitable for drying, stir-frying, and use in flakes or powders.
Flavour is clean and direct with a sharp, quick heat. Heat is generally regarded as Medium, providing noticeable pungency without reaching extreme levels. No formally published Scoville Heat Unit figure is available for this variety.
Plants are compact to medium-sized and very productive, often carrying large numbers of upright pods. Facing Heaven performs well in containers, greenhouses, and sheltered outdoor positions, particularly in warm conditions.
This variety has long been used in Chinese cooking, especially in dried form, where its heat and appearance are valued. It represents a classic example of East Asian annuum chillies grown for reliability and culinary versatility.
Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.
