Description

Chilli Name: HABANERO MAURU SAURU
Chilli Species: Capsicum Chinense
Chilli Origin: Nauru
Chilli Heat: Very Hot

Habanero Mauru Sauru is a Capsicum chinense variety associated with Nauru Island, where it is reported to have evolved or been traditionally grown. It is cultivated for strong habanero heat and aromatic flavour rather than ornamental use.

Pods are lantern-shaped to slightly elongated with a lightly wrinkled surface. Fruits ripen from green to red when fully mature. Pod walls are moderately thin, making the pods suitable for sauces, fresh use, and drying.

Flavour is fruity and aromatic with classic chinense character, followed by an intense, lingering heat. Heat is classed as Very Hot, consistent with habanero-type chillies, commonly falling within the 100,000–350,000 SHU range.

Plants are bushy and moderately compact, typically reaching 70–100 cm in height. They require warm temperatures and a long growing season to develop full heat and flavour, performing best in greenhouses or sheltered outdoor positions.

Habanero Mauru Sauru is recognised as a geographically named habanero selection linked to Nauru rather than a modern bred hybrid. Its value lies in its reliable heat, flavour, and regional identity.

Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.

Chilli Seeds Qty is 5 per pack unless stated.
