Madre Veija – Old Mother is a traditional Capsicum annuum chilli associated with regional cultivation in Mexico. It is regarded as an older, locally maintained type valued for its resilience, flavour, and dependable heat rather than uniform appearance.
Pods are small, narrow, and conical, often held upright on the plant. Fruits ripen from green to red when mature and have thin walls, making them suitable for drying, crushing, and use as a seasoning chilli.
Flavour is earthy and direct with a clean chilli bite. Heat is classed as Hot, delivering a sharp, noticeable pungency typical of traditional annuum chillies. No formally published Scoville Heat Unit figure is available for this variety.
