Description

Chilli Name: PEQUIN ORANGE
Chilli Species: Capsicum Annuum
Chilli Origin: Mexico
Chilli Heat: Hot

Pequin Orange is a colour variant of the traditional Pequin chilli, a small-fruited Capsicum annuum closely associated with wild and semi-wild chilli populations of Mexico. It is valued for its sharp heat, compact pods, and strong traditional chilli character.

Pods are very small, round to slightly oval, usually 1–2 cm in diameter. Fruits ripen from green to orange when fully mature. The walls are thin, making the pods well suited to drying, crushing, and powder production.

Flavour is clean and earthy with a quick, sharp heat that arrives rapidly and fades relatively fast. Heat is classed as Hot, commonly placed in the 30,000–60,000 SHU range, delivering a concentrated punch despite the small pod size.

Plants are compact and bushy, typically reaching 60–80 cm in height. They are productive once established and perform well in warm, sheltered conditions, including containers and greenhouse growing.

Pequin chillies have a long history in Mexican cuisine, where they are traditionally harvested from wild plants and used dried or crushed as a seasoning. The orange-fruited form represents a selected colour variant rather than a separate historical landrace.

Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.

Chilli Seeds Qty is 5 per pack unless stated.
