Description

Chilli Name: SENEGA
Chilli Species: Capsicum Frutescens
Chilli Origin: Senegal
Chilli Heat: Hot

Senega is a traditional chilli associated with Senegal and West Africa, grown primarily for its strong heat and suitability for drying. It is cultivated as a practical cooking chilli rather than for ornamental or novelty purposes.

Pods are small, slender, and elongated, often produced upright on the plant. Fruits ripen from green to red when fully mature. Pod walls are thin, making them particularly well suited to drying, crushing, and powder production.

Flavour is sharp and direct with minimal sweetness, followed by a firm, lingering heat. Heat is classed as Hot, delivering clear pungency without reaching superhot intensity. No formally published Scoville Heat Unit figure is available for this variety.

Plants are compact and resilient, typically reaching 60–90 cm in height. They are productive and well adapted to warm climates, performing reliably in containers, greenhouses, or sheltered outdoor growing.

Senega is best regarded as a regional West African chilli type rather than a modern bred cultivar. Its value lies in reliability, drying qualities, and traditional culinary use.

Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.

Chilli Seeds Qty is 5 per pack unless stated.
