The Dragon’s Breath chilli is one of the hottest chillies in the world, reportedly reaching around 2.4 million Scoville Heat Units (SHU). It was developed in Wales, originally as part of a project exploring natural numbing agents for medical use. The heat is so extreme that it isn’t intended for general culinary use — it’s really more of a showcase of just how far chilli breeding can push the limits.
In terms of appearance, the pods are small and wrinkled, similar to a Carolina Reaper, with a bright, glossy red colour when fully ripe. The shape and texture give them that classic "superhot" look, almost warning you of the fiery heat within.
Because of its incredible strength, Dragon’s Breath isn’t typically grown for everyday cooking. It’s more often used for hot sauce extracts, novelty products, or simply as a collector’s item for serious chilli enthusiasts. Even experienced growers handle it with caution, using gloves and eye protection when dealing with the pods and seeds
