Description

Habanero for all Chilli heads, now we are getting close to proper heat, Vindaloo curry is rated at 100k SHU, Habanero Chilli is rated at 350,000 SHU - 3 x hotter in one chilli pod

Most chilli is for flavour and upto 30k shu or madras curry heat, habanero chilli has distinctive fruity flavour with the bags of heat

Habanero originally evolved in the Caribbean but grown commercially in Mexico

One habanero pod per meal is enough or around ½ teaspoon of flake and 1/4 teaspoon powder to add a good smack of heat to any dish

The only difference between habanero whole and habanero powder is ease of use and texture within your dish, for quick use I use powder, for weekend cooking sessions its whole pods, always ensure to get your chilli powder from reputable sources

Habanero can be used to create a marinade or straight into a sauce with the hydration but still providing texture

Habanero Chilli Powder – Quick Reference

  • What is it? A fine powder made from dried Habanero chillies.
  • Flavour A distinctive fruity chilli flavour with a strong aromatic character beneath the heat.
  • Heat level Very hot, around 350,000 SHU.
  • Origin The Habanero evolved in the Caribbean and is commercially grown in Mexico.
  • Common uses Hot sauces, marinades, curries, salsas, stews and dishes requiring serious fruity heat.
  • Pairs well with Citrus, mango, pineapple, tomato, garlic, chicken, pork and seafood.
  • How to use Use very sparingly. About one-quarter teaspoon is comparable to one pod and is enough to bring strong heat to a meal.
  • Compare with Much hotter than Scotch Bonnet-style everyday sauces, though both share a fruity Caribbean character.
  • Possible substitute Scotch Bonnet for a Caribbean-style alternative, or Red Savina for a stronger Habanero expression.
  • Storage Keep sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to protect colour, aroma and flavour.

Good to know: Habanero should taste distinctly fruity as well as hot; it is not simply a source of anonymous heat.

Nice and hot, but a good flavour with none of the bitterness you sometimes get with chilli powder.

    Excellent Quality Products

Posted by Irene Theofylaktopoulou on 16th Aug 2021

As always, excellent quality products and great service. No hassle or worries when you order from SpicesontheWeb and their spices are to die for. I love my Vindaloo seasoning and all the extra-hot-yet-full-of-flavor chillies. What I appreciate most is them being honest about the reasons why some spices may be unavailable (extreme weather conditions in the regions where they are cultivated or poor quality product that doesn't live up to their standards) I just hope this darned Brexit thing doesn't deprive me of their wonderful products.
