Aromatic Thai Spice Mix

Overview

A fragrant, Thai-inspired spice and herb blend combining lemongrass, ginger, garlic, basil and coriander leaf with sweet pepper, onion and warming star anise. Chilli flakes provide a gentle background heat, while the aromatic herbs and spices give the blend its fresh, savoury character.

Aromatic Thai Spice Mix is particularly good with fish and seafood, where the lemongrass, ginger and coriander complement delicate flavours without overwhelming them. It is equally at home with chicken, beef and lamb, and makes an easy seasoning for stir-fried, roasted or grilled vegetables.

Use it as a dry seasoning, add during cooking, or combine with a little oil to make a quick aromatic marinade.

Flavour Profile

Aromatic • Citrusy • Herby • Savoury • Gently Warming

Lemongrass and ginger provide the bright aromatic notes, supported by basil and coriander leaf. Garlic and onion add savoury depth, sweet bell pepper brings a mild natural sweetness, while ground star anise adds a distinctive warm fragrance.

Chilli flakes provide a gentle lift of heat rather than dominating the blend.

Common Uses

Fish & Seafood: Sprinkle over white fish, salmon, prawns or seafood before grilling, baking or pan-frying. For a simple marinade, mix the seasoning with a little oil and coat the fish before cooking.

Chicken: Rub onto chicken breasts, thighs or wings before grilling or roasting, or add to sliced chicken for a quick Thai-inspired stir-fry.

Beef: Use with thinly sliced beef for wok cooking, noodle dishes or aromatic beef skewers.

Lamb: Works particularly well with grilled lamb, kebabs and lamb steaks where the ginger, garlic and star anise add an aromatic contrast to the richer meat.

Vegetables: Toss with vegetables and a little oil before roasting, grilling or stir-frying. Excellent with peppers, mushrooms, courgettes, aubergine, onions and cauliflower.

Noodles & Rice: Add during cooking to noodle dishes, fried rice or rice bowls for an easy aromatic flavour base.

Marinade: Mix with oil and, if desired, a little lime juice or soy sauce to create a quick marinade for fish, meat or vegetables.

How Much to Use

As a starting point, use approximately 1–2 teaspoons per 250g of fish, meat or vegetables, adjusting to taste.

For marinades, mix the seasoning with enough oil to lightly coat the food and allow the flavours to develop before cooking.

Storage

Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Keep the container tightly sealed to preserve the flavour and aroma of the herbs and spices.
