The chickpea or chick pea is an annual legume of the family Fabaceae, subfamily Faboideae. Its different types are variously known as gram or Bengal gram, chhana, chana, or channa, garbanzo or garbanzo bean, or Egyptian pea.

Chickpeas have a delicious nutty taste, creamy texture and are extremely nutritious. Slightly bigger in size than a pea, chickpeas may be tiny but are certainly well-deserving of their superfood status, being packed full of nutrients and health benefits.
