Chilli Name: HABANERO GRENADA SEASONING
Chilli Species: Capsicum chinense
Chilli Origin: Grenada, Caribbean
Chilli Heat: Mild
The Habanero Grenada Seasoning is a traditional Caribbean seasoning chilli, grown primarily for its rich aroma and flavour rather than heat. It is a regional Capsicum chinense variety widely used in everyday cooking, where whole pods are added to dishes to impart flavour without excessive pungency.
Pods are medium-sized with a rounded to slightly lantern-shaped form, typical of habanero-type chillies. Fruits ripen from green to yellow or orange, with thin to moderately thick walls and a smooth, slightly glossy skin.
Flavour is fruity, lightly citrusy and aromatic, characteristic of Capsicum chinense, but with restrained heat. Heat levels are generally mild, commonly estimated in the 500–5,000 SHU range, making it suitable for seasoning stews, sauces, rice dishes and marinades without overwhelming spice.
Plants are compact to medium in size, producing good yields under warm, stable growing conditions. They perform well in containers or sheltered outdoor positions and benefit from consistent heat, light, and regular feeding throughout the season.
This variety is deeply rooted in Grenadian and wider Caribbean cuisine, where it is valued as a “seasoning pepper” rather than a hot chilli. It reflects the regional preference for aromatic depth over raw heat and is an important part of traditional cooking culture.
Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.
