Description
Chilli Name: RAMIRO CHOCOLATE
Chilli Species: Capsicum annuum
Chilli Origin: Italy/Spanish-derived (vegetable pepper selection)
Chilli Heat: Sweet (0–500 SHU)
Ramiro Chocolate is a coloured variant of the classic Ramiro pepper, selected for its glossy chocolate-brown pods and intensely sweet, aromatic flavour. It is regarded as a vegetable pepper rather than a hot chilli, valued for its culinary versatility and decorative fruit colour.
Pods are long, slender, and slightly grooved, maturing from green to a rich chocolate brown. They have thin skin and firm, juicy flesh, making them excellent for salads, stuffing, grilling, roasting or eating fresh. The pod shape and texture are typical of elongated sweet peppers.
Flavour is sweet and highly aromatic, with no significant heat, fitting within the Sweet category (0–500 SHU). Culinary uses focus on flavour and texture rather than spice.
Plants are compact and productive, often bearing many large pods in a relatively small space, which suits container growing or greenhouse cultivation. Compact habit also makes them suitable for patios, balcony growing or mixed summer beds.
Ramiro Chocolate is generally offered and promoted as a sweet pepper cultivar used as a fresh vegetable or cooking ingredient rather than a traditional “chilli”. Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.
