Description

Chilli Name: SELVATICO
Chilli Species: Capsicum Annuum
Chilli Origin: Italy
Chilli Heat: Hot

Selvatico is a traditional Capsicum annuum chilli associated with semi-wild and locally maintained plants in Italy. The name Selvatico translates to “wild”, reflecting its close relationship to naturalised and non-commercial chilli populations rather than uniform modern cultivars.

Pods are small, narrow, and conical, often slightly curved. Fruits ripen from green to red when fully mature and have thin walls, making them well suited to drying and use as a seasoning chilli.

Flavour is direct and earthy with a sharp chilli bite. Heat is classed as Hot, delivering a clear, immediate pungency typical of small-fruited annuum types. No formally published Scoville Heat Unit figure is available for this variety.

Plants are compact to medium in size and generally resilient. They perform well in containers or open ground in warm, sheltered conditions and are often noted for their toughness and adaptability.

Selvatico represents a category of traditional chillies maintained through local growing and seed saving rather than formal breeding. Its value lies in reliability, flavour, and cultural continuity rather than uniform appearance.

Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.

Chilli Seeds Qty is 5 per pack unless stated.
