Zebrange is a modern Capsicum baccatum hybrid bred by Laurent Minet in Belgium. It is best known for its distinctive striped ripe pods and fruity baccatum flavour, combining ornamental appeal with practical kitchen use.
Pods are bulbous to bell-like, often with lobing, and can vary slightly between plants. As they ripen, fruits typically turn orange with vertical red striping, though some pods may mature more uniformly red depending on phenotype and growing conditions. Flesh is crisp, making them suitable for fresh use and stuffing.
Flavour is aromatic, fruity, and sweet in the baccatum style, with heat that is present but not dominant. Reported heat is commonly placed around 5,000–10,000 SHU, which sits within the Medium category.
Plants are mid-sized and productive, typically suited to pots or greenhouse growing where they can ripen fully and develop the characteristic striping. A longer season improves colour development and overall yield.
