Description

Pasilla Chilli Flakes is an awesome pepper from Mexico providing sweet raisin flavour perfect in so many dishes

Pasilla is a step up from sweet pepper with many many generations of Mexican farmers cultivating the very best seed to produce a unique flavour

Can be used in the Mexican, Tex Mex or BBQ recipes but equally good infused with Italian dishes and British Meat Sauces

Very low in heat at 5000 SHU

Mixing with other Mexican chilli produce their own unique flavours - chipotle and Pasilla - sweet and smokey goes great with beef

The only difference between whole and powder is ease of use and texture within your dish, for quick use I use powder, for weekend cooking sessions its whole pods, always ensure to get your chilli powder from reputable sources

Pasilla Chilli Flakes - Quick Reference

  • What are Pasilla chilli flakes?: Mexican Pasilla chillies cut into flakes for easier use while retaining the texture of the dried pod.
  • Principal flavour: Sweet raisin flavour with gentle dark-fruit depth.
  • Heat level: Very low, around 5,000 SHU according to the product description.
  • Common uses: Mexican and Tex-Mex sauces, barbecue recipes, Italian dishes and British meat sauces.
  • Pairs well with: Beef, tomato, garlic, cumin, oregano, cocoa, mushrooms and Chipotle.
  • How to use: Add directly to cooking or hydrate and blend. The flakes provide a middle ground between whole pods and powder.
  • Comparison: Sweeter and more raisin-led than Guajillo; paired with Chipotle it gives a useful sweet-and-smoky balance.
  • Texture: Softens in sauces but remains more noticeable than powder.
  • Good to know: Pasilla is the dried form of the chilaca chilli and should not be confused with fresh poblano sometimes mislabelled as Pasilla.
  • Storage: Keep sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
