Description
Nopales are the edible pads (or paddles) of the prickly pear cactus (Opuntia species). Popular in Mexican and Latin American cuisine, they have a slightly tangy, citrusy flavour with a texture similar to green beans or okra. When cooked, they become tender but can have a bit of a slimy (mucilaginous) quality, like okra
They’re often used in salads, tacos, soups, and stews, and can be grilled, boiled, or sautéed. Nutritionally, they're rich in fibre, antioxidants, and vitamins (especially C and A)
