Mr Watkins stored a seed bank of as many strains of wheat from around the world as he could find, often sending letters to consulates and leaders of all countries that grew wheat

This "goldmine" of historical wheat strains may offer genetic diversity and traits that are resistant to climate change and diseases. By studying and potentially crossbreeding these old varieties with modern wheat, researchers hope to develop new strains that are more resilient and productive, which could play a crucial role in feeding the global population in the future, along with producing a strain that doesn't cause Coeliac disease - link to the newspaper article below, interesting read
