Description
Chilli Name: TURKISH FLOWER PEPPER
Chilli Species: Capsicum Annuum
Chilli Origin: Turkey
Chilli Heat: Medium
Turkish Flower Pepper is a traditional Capsicum annuum variety widely grown in Turkey, valued for its compact pods and balanced heat. It is commonly used both fresh and dried, fitting well into everyday cooking rather than extreme heat applications.
Pods are small, short, and conical, often produced in clusters. Fruits ripen from green to red when fully mature and have thin walls, making them suitable for drying, pickling, and fresh use. The compact pod size gives the variety its “flower” name.
Flavour is clean and lightly fruity with a noticeable but manageable heat. Heat is generally regarded as Medium, delivering warmth without overpowering dishes. No formally published Scoville Heat Unit figure is available for this variety.
Plants are compact and productive, usually reaching around 50–70 cm in height. They perform well in containers, greenhouses, and sheltered outdoor positions, producing reliably over a long season.
Turkish Flower Pepper is a well-established regional chilli used in local cuisine, particularly in dried form as flakes or powder. It represents a classic example of Mediterranean annuum chillies grown for versatility rather than intensity.
Germination temperature 28–30 °C. See our Water and Feed Guides for advise.
