Chilli and Lady Birds

Ladybirds eat insects and bugs that are harmful to your garden.

If you see a Ladybird in your garden or on your flowers, don't kill it! Ladybirds are one a gardener's best friends. Ladybirds eat the harmful bugs and insects that would feast on your garden plants, vegetables and flowers.

Adult Ladybirds and their larvae are voracious eaters that will devour aphids, thrips, chinch bugs, and several other varieties of scale insect and beetles

If you have not seen Ladybirds in your garden or flower bed, you can purchase Ladybirds from several sources. Some garden supply centres have ladybirds, and you can always order them via mail order or internet website.

It only takes a few Ladybirds to keep harmful insects and bugs out of your garden, so if you do purchase Ladybirds, don't release them in the garden all at once. If the garden population of Ladybugs is too high, the Ladybugs will either leave your garden in search of more food or they will starve to death

If/when you purchase Ladybirds, mulch and water your garden, then in the late evening gently release the Ladybugs into your garden. Place one Ladybirds on the moist mulch every 15 steps.

The Ladybirds will seek protection in the cool, moist mulch and then the next morning, they will climb the nearest garden plant and start eating harmful insects and bugs

Place any remaining Ladybirds in your refrigerator for later release. Ladybirds will hibernate in the refrigerator for several weeks

BUYING LADYBIRDS

Ladybirds can be purchased and supplied through the post - here are the pics I have of some ladybirds I bought to combat an aphid problem

They usually come in tubs, which you open and allow the ladies to wonder off themselves - worth watching them for a while, as you can see them warming up under the Hydroponic Lights - wings will start to flap and their little legs start to take them off in search of food - fascinating to watch
