Small Chilli Pod Production

In the UK we do not have the climate that is suitable for growing chilli plants

Where a chilli type has not travelled much away from a climate it has evolved in the genes of the plant are set to expect a certain climate

Super hot chillies and Wild types suffer from a lack of gene diversity that such types like cayenne’s which have been grown all over the world for years has a strong gene base to draw on to grow in differing climates

The more wild and specific the chilli you are growing the more specific and  consistent the weather it will require

Where you get a sunny period and a period of cloudy rainy days which is common for the UK the pods will start to grow in the sunny and then a lack of sun creates a lack energy and the pod stops growing

This is a Scotch Bonnet, very standard and has grown in most places but still suffers with poor sunlight conditions

The picture above, the pods started to grow in March and then followed by 3 months of rain, the pods are very small.  While the picture on the right was taken in September after a month or so of sunnier days, producing fuller sized pods
