Description

There is nothing like oregano in a dish as it compliments most meats to provide a sweet flavour and aroma

Unlike Mexican Oregano the Turkish version is not as strong in its citrus aroma, preferring to be sweet and mellow which for some dishes is ideal

The Oregano is also cut and blended to a finer powder texture than the rough cut Mexican version

After all, the point of cooking authentic meals is to try the different flavours of food that the area produces

Freshness of Stock with quick turnaround and quality suppliers ensure a great product every time

We do not stock up and store any of our food for long to ensure all herbs, chilli and spices are supplied to you with the maximum flavour possible

We only source from importers or import ourselves from people who grow and aim for quality again to provide you the best flavour possible

Turkish Oregano - Quick Reference

What is it?: A robust Mediterranean oregano traditionally used across Turkish and eastern Mediterranean cooking.

Flavour: Warm, savoury and aromatic with peppery, slightly bitter and resinous notes.

Common uses: Kebabs, grilled lamb, tomato sauces, flatbreads, salads, roasted vegetables and marinades.

Pairs well with: Sumac, cumin, mint, garlic, lemon, tomato, lamb and yoghurt.

How to use: Rub lightly between the palms before use, or bloom briefly in warm oil for sauces and dressings.

Compare with: Usually stronger and more assertive than standard supermarket oregano.

Substitute: Greek oregano is the closest substitute, with a similarly direct Mediterranean character.

Storage: Store airtight away from heat and sunlight.

Good to know: Its strength makes it especially useful in fatty meats and tomato-rich dishes where milder herbs can disappear.

Good quality product at a good price. Only observation is it needs to be double bagged as it is very pungent.

I don't normally go for dried herbs but SOTW herbs are brilliant. They have a robust, fresh flavour second to none.
