Quick Reference

What is it?: A salt-free Persian rice seasoning of cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, cumin, black pepper, lemon myrtle, turmeric and rose petals.

Flavour: Warm, floral and gently citrusy, with rose and cardamom lifting the earthy cumin and turmeric.

Common Uses: Persian polo rice, pilaf, couscous, rice salads and aromatic grain dishes.

Pairs Well With: Basmati rice, saffron, dried fruit, pistachios, almonds, lamb and chicken.

How to Use: Cook the rice first, then sprinkle or fold in the seasoning so the floral notes are not lost through long boiling.

Compare With: Compared with Advieh Khoresht, Berenj is lighter and more floral, designed for rice rather than deep stew flavour.

Substitute: Use Advieh Khoresht for stews or a small mix of cinnamon, cardamom and rose as a simple substitute.

Storage: Store sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and steam.

Good to Know: Rose petals and lemon myrtle make this a finishing-style rice spice rather than a conventional curry powder.

    Great spice mix

I love this spice mix, it's quite different to mixes I've used before and really does carry a very distinctive, aromatic flavour. All of Spices on the Web product are excellent to be fair I mostly use this to make a biryani style rice with meat, nuts, dried fruit and egg.
