Oktoberfest is probably the best known Bavarian Festival, but if you want something less commercialised and more traditional then I can recommend Annafest, a food festival first
Each July, the Bavarian town of Forchheim lights up for Annafest, a forest-side folk festival where beer flows and tradition thrives. While roasted meats take centre stage, it's the side dishes that complete the table and tell the real story of Bavarian cooking.
Soft and starchy Kartoffelknödel (potato dumplings) and herb-flecked Semmelknödel (bread dumplings) are perfect for soaking up gravy. Tangy Sauerkraut and sweet-sour Rotkohl (braised red cabbage) bring balance, while buttery mashed potatoes offer pure comfort. Simple, rustic, and hearty—these are the flavours of Bavaria.
