Coffee Information

Kelvin Guerrero is part of the El Horcon comite (a small producer group) in La Coipa. La Coipa is also where you'll find Irene Herrera (La Mandarina) and Nima Juarez (El Roble & La Quebrada) - it's a fantastic producing region close to Jaen in Cajamarca. We picked Kelvin's coffee off a cupping table as a great cup which shows a slightly different flavour profile to La Mandarina, despite coming from farms which are quite close together.

Kelvin is 29 years old - young coffee producers like Kelvin is quite common in Peru - and he has 2 hectates of coffee. It's a mix of Catuai and Marshell, with a bit more of the traditional Catuai than the more recent Marshell varietal. The farm is at 1850 masl and he processes this coffee as a Washed coffee, in a very classic way - using a tiled tank and sun drying the coffee.

A super smooth a creamy caramel fills this cup. A gentle plum fruitiness as it cools and a hint of nutmeg on the finish rounds out the easy drinking coffee.
  • Tasting notes: Caramel, plum, nutmeg
  • Varietal: Catuai, Marshell
  • Process: Washed
  • Producer: Kelvin Guerrero
  • Region: La Coipa
  • Flavour Profile: Sweet
  • Roast: Medium to medium dark - a nice steady pace through first and up to the edge of second will develop the sweetness well without pushing it into the darker chocolate flavours.

ards a more sustainable future.
